Hola, I am Marta M Roy Torrecilla, a passionate polyglot interscalarchitect, and KARTONKRAFT is my research and design office.

I am born and educated in Spain and Switzerland, but based in Rotterdam since 2006. Since then, I have gained considerable experience in renowned offices like West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture, later as associate architect in Mecanoo Architecten for seven years, and currently at RAU, as senior architect responsible for circular architecture projects in the Benelux. Since 2020, I am also a founding partner of New Urban Networks, a network office of independent architects.

I founded KARTONKRAFT in 2015 in Rotterdam, to develop my own line of research and design projects and to work on global challenges such as climate adaptation, circular economy, the future of mobility and urban densification. Following this line of action, I have been working -solo, as part of interdisciplinary teams and alongside Dutch city authorities- in multiple design and research projects that range from the interior scale to the metropolitan territory, in the Netherlands and across Europe.

In parallel to my work in practice, I maintain an active academic activity and have taught at the Boston Architectural College [BAC] in the USA, at the Università Iuav di Venezia [IUAV] in Italy and at the International Architectural Seminar ARCHDESANT in Russia. In the Netherlands, I have been lecturer and graduation tutor at the Master Interior Architecture: Research+Design, [MIARD] at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam and teacher in urbanism and graduation tutor at the Academie van Bouwkunst in Amsterdam. Most recently, I have been also lecturer at TU Delft in the masters program ‘Fundamentals of Housing Design’.

Additionally, I have been frequently invited as guest critic at Politecnico di Milano, Academie van Bouwkunst Rotterdam / Amsterdam, Fontys Academy of Architecture & Urbanism Tilburg, KU Leuven and ESNE Escuela Universitaria de Diseño in Madrid.
